Richardson’s Home Baking has been trading in Carmarthenshire for over 40 years.  Mrs Etta Richardson started the company, which makes a range of quality home produced foods ranging between sweet and savoury goods.  The company is now run by Etta’s son Richard and his wife Paula.

During a Royal visit to Llansteffan, Richardson’s Home Baking set up a small stall in the village square.  Prince Charles stopped and tried some of the cake that Etta had been baking using her mother’s traditional recipe.

Prince Charles was so impressed that he asked his Aides to get the recipe.  Etta refused to part with the secret.  She also stated that she bakes from memory each time adding ‘this and that’. He asked to purchase a boiled cake which he ate on the way home in the helicopter. Later that week his aide phoned to say he had enjoyed it so much that he wanted more and subsequently ordered another 8 for Christmas at Highgrove.

Following this success, A further request was made by the Queen for the Wedding reception of H.R.H Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles  at Windsor Castle.

The cake has now been called ‘Ettas Royal Cake’.
